Downer NZ holds a long-term Asset Management and Facilities Management contract with the Department of Corrections and the Ministry of Justice. Downer provide enhanced and extended scope of works and implement new processes to ensure that all facilitates are well managed and maintained. We are currently seeking a Senior Site Facilities Manager to join our team at the Department of Corrections in Rimutaka Prison.

A bit about the role

The Senior Site Manager is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing a team, ensuring the timely and high-quality delivery of services to our customers, and achieving the financial objectives of the contract. Success in this role requires strong people leadership, excellent relationship management, solid commercial acumen, extensive facilities management experience, and a collaborative approach to teamwork.

The Senior Site Manager will also be accountable for maintaining a Zero Harm culture through active engagement, leading the Downer site team, fostering strong customer relationships, and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and within budget. Additionally, the role involves managing subcontractors, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and upholding Downer’s values in both service delivery and people leadership.

Prisons are sometimes challenging work environments, so you must be confident and able to conduct yourself professionally at all times. You will also understand the 24/7 nature of a prison site and be prepared to sometimes manage jobs and situations after hours.

We're looking for someone who is passionate about going the extra mile! You are motivated and ready for the opportunity to take on a leadership role to achieve a high standard performance. You will also bring with you:

  • 3-5 years of management experience within the facilities industry.
  • Strong analytical, financial, and cost management skills with a focus on improving productivity.
  • Proven ability to drive operational activities, ensuring quality, on-time completion, and minimization of rework.
  • In-depth knowledge of Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, with a commitment to Health & Safety.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills, with proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, and Excel, and a current full driver’s license.
