Mō te Tūranga | About the role
We're after the best Data Engineer to join our crime-fighting technology Sanctions Squad and be a key part in helping us deliver software that ensures ASB is compliant with international and domestic sanction obligations.
As part of the Sanctions Squad, you'll be on the forefront of supporting our ETL/ELT processes, building and supporting our financial crime fighting technology capability, cutting code to ensure our systems keep up with changes, and ensuring our systems run efficiently and reliably, formulating solutions, communicating your solutions for peer review, and driving implementation. We have cutting-edge vendor tools within this platform, so you'll also be across configuring and modifying specialty tools, adding new functionality, integrating with other ASB systems, and supporting vendor applications running on our servers or in the cloud. Our teams also help ASB meet its regulatory obligations, so an understanding of Data Management and Data Controls would be a huge advantage for you.

You'll have a solid Data Engineering background with problem solving abilities and leadership skills (we want everyone to lead from their position).
We are looking for an individual that will take ownership and ensuring our systems are running smoothly and the work on the backlog. You are pragmatic and devise effective solutions that are delivered on time. You are also the sort of person that seeks help when necessary, seizing the opportunity to learn, as well as offering to help others when they need a teacher. You will work collaboratively with our squads and stakeholders to be the voice of engineering and deliver products that delight our customers.
We are looking for someone who has:
- 5+ years of data engineering experience
- Advanced StreamSets, dbt or equivalent ETL/ELT tools
- Advanced SQL Server database knowledge
- Knowledge of and/or interest in learning and applying software and architectural patterns
- Data controls / governance experience
- Knowledge of Sanctions, Fircosoft and Net Reveal would be a great advantage
In addition, the following would be an advantage:
- Experience in Oracle DB, Snowflake, or other data warehousing tools.
- Understanding of Kafka or other messaging technologies
- Experience of Windows and Linux Severs
