Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

We are seeking a Night Manager to join our team and oversee our night staff. This role will lead the evening accommodation management across all residences, providing a consistent overnight presence focusing on high-quality health, safety, well-being and pastoral care support while delivering good administration support. This vital role ensures our students feel safe, supported, and part of a positive community.

Your team will be the first point of contact for residents needing pastoral care or well-being support and assistance during the night. While this isn’t a traditional security leadership role, you take the lead, coach and train your team in health, safety and crisis management protocols, pastoral care, first aid treatment to create a secure and supportive environment for our residents.

Hours

This is a permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week) role working Tuesday to Saturday,11pm – 7am.
The remuneration is $83,300 - $102,900 per annum, dependent on skills and experience.

Training

We provide full training, including first aid, mental health first aid, and security protocols. This paid training will occur during regular business hours before your night shifts begin.

We’re looking for leaders who will take pride in delivering a high-quality service to our student residents, who are empathetic, passionate about student well-being, and capable of taking the lead in challenging situations.

This role is ideal for those seeking night shifts to fit their lifestyle, and we’ve found it to be a great fit for people with experience in pastoral care, student-focused roles, mental health services, social work, youth work, residential care, hospo or even those considering a career as a police officer.

To be considered for this role, you’ll need to:

  • Be available for night shifts, including weekends, there will be a requirement to attend training during the day and/or operational meetings on occasions
  • Experience working within a similar environment is desirable and experience managing and leading teams
  • Have leadership experience and skills
  • Ideally, have experience providing pastoral care or support
  • Possess strong communication skills, able to lead, coach, train and guide staff on processes, procedures and Health and Safety management
  • Have strong written communication skills as reporting and documentation will be a regular part of the role
  • Have some knowledge of security systems, CRMs, databases, and Building Health & Safety compliance (training will be provided)
  • Have a good understanding of Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Microsoft Teams
  • Be physically fit (a medical test by our approved provider is required)
  • This position required successful applicants to pass NZ police vetting checks and Vulnerable Children’s Act requirements
