Job Description
We have a fantastic opportunity within our Road Science business for a motivated and technical-minded individual to enter the world of Laboratory Technicians. If you have a keen interest in science and consider yourself to be a bit of a mathematician, then this could be your chance settle into a new and exciting role where training will be provided, and with plenty of career development on offer!

Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity

Based from the Penrose Road Science Laboratory, you will be trained to complete a variety of testing that ensures the integrity of the construction materials used by our operational teams. This includes testing products such as asphalt, construction aggregates, and soils to ensure quality and customer specifications are being met.

This role requires a level of flexibility to work a rotational nightshift and weekend roster where you will be onsite with our Asphalt teams conducting the necessary testing while they complete the required work outside of normal working hours.

To be successful in this role, you will be motivated and willing to learn, enjoy problem solving and the confidence to deliver outcomes to customers. You will also have:

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • A current NZ Full Class 1 drivers licence
  • The ability to work as part of a team
  • The flexibility to work nightshift and weekend as required
  • A great, positive ‘can do’ attitude



Our Road Science team supports the upper North Island, covering Whangarei through Taupo therefore the ability to travel and stay away from home is required.

Road Science is New Zealand’s leading designer and supplier of bitumen and bitumen-based products. We have world-class manufacturing plants and storage facilities for bitumen, emulsions, and polymer-modified binders. Road Science has five IANZ-accredited civil engineering laboratories, and a number of project-specific mobile laboratories.
