This part-time role, based primarily at Mercury Baypark Arena in Mount Maunganui but also with opportunities to get out into smaller community facilities, is all about sport, recreation, and play. Whether it is our social netball and football leagues, Tumble Time programme for preschoolers, or Funky Fun Day series for school kids, we are getting people of all ages active and having a lot of fun in the process.
Bay Venues is the kaitiaki of community facilities in Tauranga. We manage five aquatic facilities, community centres and halls across the city, as well as indoor sports venues, Mercury Baypark, and the University of Waikato Adams Centre for High Performance.

As part of our passionate activation team, you will be responsible for coordinating sports leagues and community recreation and play programmes within the network of Bay Venues facilities. This includes creating sports league draws, managing payments, marketing, planning, and staffing.
You will be involved in supporting around 40 casual staff, which consists of Programme Facilitators and Umpires. Assisting with recruitment, induction, training and developing staff, you will thrive on enabling your team to deliver and engage with customers in a professional and fun manner.
You will be hands-on in the set up and delivery of programmes, taking a lead role in generating a positive and friendly atmosphere amongst the participants. Your excellent administration and financial skills will be called upon to administer the necessary programme documentation, as well as track enrolments and compile reports as necessary.
This is a part-time salaried position, working primarily Monday to Thursday, with flexibility to work some weekends from time to time. Hours can range between 8am – 9pm at various venues dependent on programme offerings, however the ability to work in the evenings at least once a week is required.
To be successful in this role you will have proven experience in the recreation/leisure industry, as well as demonstrated experience in the coordination of programmes. You will possess staff supervision and programme management skills and demonstrate confidence in managing large groups of adults and children. You will be well versed in Microsoft Office with the ability to quickly learn other administrative software with high attention to detail to meet deadlines. You will have excellent interpersonal skills, be confident speaking to large groups and proven ability to deescalate situations.
