Job Description

As a Protection Technician, you will join our highly skilled team of Technicians within the Substation Services team, in supporting the reliable and effective operation of our network and associated substations.

This role includes maintaining and testing relays and protection schemes, along with commissioning brand new schemes as part of capital works.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess safety and functionality of secondary systems and schemes
  • Analyse, design, modify and apply network protection settings
  • Test and commission remote connected equipment
  • Participate in a 24hr callout roster for 24hr fault response and repair
  • Assist with As-building drawings
  • Assist engineering with design of settings/SCADA mapping
  • Liaise with the control centre, NMS Team, engineering, dispatch and operations staff


Skills and Experience:

  • Registered Electrician / Protection Technician with a Technical Certificate / NZCE or equivalent
  • A minimum of 3 years post qualifying experience in the electrical industry
  • Experience in testing and commissioning primary and secondary equipment
  • Demonstrate an uncompromising commitment to workplace safety
