The Parks Operations team provide a critical customer facing support service, ensuring the city's residents and visitors enjoy a well-managed and maintained environment. The Mowing Team are passionate about their work and provide the highest professional mowing service with cutting edge technology, a health & safety focus and attitude.

The Handcutter/Weedwater Operator will assist in the provision of a scheduled programmed mowing maintenance regime of the Parks and Gardens passive, and recreational reserves, sports fields surrounds, for internal and external contracts.

Ideally, we are looking for people with experience using small machinery and plant such as commercial blowers and line trimmers (weed eaters) however we are also open to considering people looking for entry into the world of turf maintenance with the right attitude.

As well as being energetic and having great time management, you will also have the following:

  • A full clean NZ class 1 driver's licence
  • The ability to prioritise, working to programmed maintenance schedules and within timeframes
  • Health & safety awareness
  • Customer service experience
  • The ability to work well with others and/or unsupervised
  • The ability to communicate effectively with others
  • Good physical health


We will provide you with all the training required and will help you grow and develop in this role. We have a busy year ahead and we are interested in hearing from people with a great attitude who would like to be part of a supportive and friendly team. As this is a safety sensitive role, the successful candidate will need to undergo pre-employment drug and alcohol screening in addition to medical and health checks. Applicants will also undergo a Ministry of Justice check.

Please note that this is a full-time role, 8 hours a day, Monday - Friday. Hours are usually 7am - 3.30pm however this can vary due to seasonal changes and other factors.
