Job Description

Are you passionate about making a difference in the life of young people and their whānau?

Join our small team of friendly kaiāwhina to support our neurodiverse, 14-year-old male client with health needs. He has nocturnal epilepsy, ADHD and a mild intellectual disability. This means he has seizures when he’s asleep. What he needs is, compassionate people to look after him overnight and during the day to help him feel safe when he is feeling distressed. Experience in this area will be advantageous, but training will be given.

Salary: $23.38 to $29.10 per hour (based on qualifications)

We have these shifts available:

  • Monday and Tuesday, 9.00pm to 6.00am – Wake overs shifts – double assist
  • General Pool and back up for this client


Duties include:

  • Taking observations (note taking)
  • Mickey button feeding
  • Oxygen therapy
  • General household tasks
  • Be a great companion for our client


Although experience is helpful, it is not necessarily required. The right person will:

  • Be compassionate, reliable, and honest.
  • Love working with children.
  • Be familiar with epilepsy (although training can be provided)
  • Have a first aid certificate (first aid training can also be provided)
  • Be positive and adaptable, with a ‘can do’ attitude.


Applicants must:

  • have their own car and full driver’s licence.
  • Be a NZ citizen or permanent resident of NZ or have a relevant work visa with more than 12-month expiry date
  • Only apply if you live within the Hutt Valley of Wellington, New Zealand


This role may suit anyone studying towards a career working with children in any of the following fields: special education, teaching, teacher aide work, healthcare, educational psychology, social work, youth work or caregiver support.
