About the role

Tranzit is a reputable family-owned transport and tourism provider operating throughout NZ. We're proud to be the winners of the Distribution and Logistics Award at the Manawatu Business Awards 2024. We successfully delivered NZ's first fully electric urban bus transport network in partnership with Horizon's Regional Council in Palmerston North this year, and we are excited to continue this success in 2025.

Due to an internal promotion, we are looking for an experienced and motivated Urban Operations Manager to join our team. As the current and high performing operator of urban services in Palmerston North, this is a golden opportunity to be part of an incredible company and to build on an existing solid foundation.

Transport is a fast paced and thrilling industry, and this position will suit someone who thrives on change and quick, methodical decision making.

You will be responsible for:

  • Supporting and managing our urban operations team, and our team of 90 drivers.
  • Fleet management and maintenance,
  • Supporting our operations supervisors with on road service disruptions, detours, incidents, and accidents,
  • Fostering our relationship with Horizon's Regional Council and other stakeholders, and
  • Daily performance management to ensure we achieve our KPI's.


To be successful you should have:

  • Industry experience is an advantage,
  • Leadership experience - ability to manage a diverse team,
  • Operational planning and coordination,
  • Effective communication and capable of building on a strong culture,
  • Ability to multitask at an exceptional level with strong time management skills,
  • Excellent literacy and numeracy,
  • Ability to work under pressure,
  • Excellent stakeholder partnering skills,
  • Advanced computer skills and willingness to adapt to new technology,
  • Clean full licence for 2 years+ and ability to obtain a Passenger Endorsement and Class 2 licence,
  • Quick problem-solving skills & the ability to think on your feet, fast!
