Job Description

The Coolest Internship in Aotearoa is Here!

Keen to experience all Ōtautahi Christchurch has to offer this winter and gain work experience while you’re at it?

The city is never short of new stories to tell and we’re on the hunt for a budding content creator to tell those stories this winter!

This is your opportunity to gain valuable work experience in the social media world, while getting to know (what is in our humble opinion) the most exciting region in the country during the winter months.

*Please note, a 60 second video is required for your application.

Here's what we are looking for:

We’re after a Social Media Intern to join our Marketing, Brand and Communications team for three weeks (23 June – 11 July) this winter. Trust us when we say no two days will be the same! You will be out and about the city and region, filming content to be shared on the ChristchurchNZ social media channels to promote the region.

  • Experience the very best Christchurch and Canterbury has to offer, and yes that may include flying down ziplines, getting up close with wildlife and enjoying some of the city’s best culinary offerings!
  • Plan, create and publish engaging content across channels, with support from our Social Media Specialist
  • Be an enthusiastic, engaging ambassador for the region who is keen to give things a go
  • Engage with followers and foster a sense of community on social media platforms
  • Monitor and report on performance metrics and effectiveness of content, with support from our Social Media Specialist

Here’s what you bring to the table:

  • Experience filming and editing content, personally or professionally
  • A good understanding of social media channels, including current trends
  • You’re excited by the opportunity to try adventure tourism products and keen to experience a range of activities and attractions
  • Proficiency in creating engaging and high-quality content, including text, images and videos
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, essential for collaborating with the digital team and external city partners
  • Strong time management and an ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

What’s in it for you?

  • All costs associated with travel (including to Christchurch), activities and accommodation will be covered during the three-week internship
  • A range of hosted meals at some of the city’s hospitality hot spots. Please note that not all meals will be hosted and paid for during the internship
  • This internship is unpaid, but we will provide a lump sum contribution towards your at home living costs during the internship
  • A range of winter clothing provided by Macpac (that you get to keep!)
  • Valuable work experience in a modern central city office, with mentoring and support from a high performing marketing team
  • A portfolio of published work to show future employers
  • And it has to be said... a really epic time in an epic city!

Sounds like this is made for you? Show us your personality and creativity by submitting a 60-second video cv with your application on ZEIL showcasing your region . Once you swipe right the option to add a video cv will be available :)

Applications close Wednesday 30th April 2025.
