We are looking for a Senior Communication Advisor to join our amazing team of Strategic Communications Advisors for a fixed term of six months (maternity cover). We promise you will not be bored!

You will be a natural problem-solver, with the broad mix of skills required for any effective communications advisor. You will have experience in strategic communications planning, project and event planning, and you will know good internal, external and stakeholder communications. Our leadership places a high value on people who can show up with great energy and passion for Police work, people who are innovative and offer diversity of thought, and people who personally set a very high work ethic for themselves.

This role will have assigned portfolios to lead, so we welcome people with a great attitude for getting things done as an individual, while also being able to switch up muck-in when a team effort is required.
Our work plays an important part in how our staff see themselves, and how the public sees and talks about Police – public having great trust and confidence drives a significant part of our work.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide advice to the Commissioner, Executive and National Managers on publicity issues and strategies.
  • Develop and manage a capability to analyse, measure and evaluate, performance and outcomes of communications activity.
  • Develop and maintain networks with peers in other agencies and other public sector organisations.
  • Ensure any areas of potential risk to police management’s risk and reputation.

This role is based at PNHQ. Some travel may be required.

The minimum criteria for this level of national security clearance is:

NZ Citizen who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or:

A Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or
A citizen of or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, or United States of America, and has a background that can be verified by the NZSIS.

Utu ā-tau | Salary
This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence between $110,425 and $117,014 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
