Join Our Team as a Senior Merchandise Manager!

Are you a customer obsessed, results focused strategic thinker with a passion for driving category performance and building strong supplier partnerships? Here at PlaceMakers we are looking for a dynamic Senior Merchandise Manager to join our team at our Penrose Support Office in Auckland.

About the Role:
As the Senior Merchandise Manager, you will play a crucial role in achieving our commercial aspirations. You will lead the development of winning category strategies that help us win in the market, fostering strong supplier relationships whilst working collaboratively across the business to ensure the high-quality execution of category standards. Our business is evolving, and this role is not for the faint hearted.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Foster a high-performance culture across the team with exceptional leadership and coaching capabilities.
  • Develop and execute customer centric category strategies to achieve sales and profit targets.
  • Nurture and develop strategic supplier partnerships to optimize commercial performance.
  • In conjunction with the Head of Pricing, develop reviews of pricing competitiveness and ongoing price optimization.
  • Lead a customer-centric culture within the team.
  • Partner with Marketing to create compelling category and product activations.
  • Stay ahead of industry and global category trends.


What We’re Looking For:

  • Extensive experience leading a merchandise or category team
  • Proven track record in developing customer centric category strategies that maximize revenue and improve outcomes for customers.
  • Highly developed supplier negotiation and procurement skills.
  • Willingness to challenge “normal” and drive positive change for our customers.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and decision-making abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in distribution, retail, and/or building trade is an advantage.
  • A tertiary qualification in business or marketing is a plus.
