About the role
Halter is a dynamic fast-paced workplace where our Animal team is working on Halter’s market-leading virtual fencing technology. We’re working on the exciting intersection of IoT, data processing, and predictive analytics, helping to build a system that actively improves farm productivity and sustainability, and you can be a part of that!
We are looking for experienced backend engineers who are extremely motivated, want their work to matter and are not afraid to push hard to help Halter achieve our mission. You'll develop technology that farmers rely on daily to monitor and protect their livestock. Your code will directly impact animal well-being and has the potential to improve farming practices worldwide. You’ll be responsible for ensuring our systems reliably support our farmers 24/7 and you’ll be scaling our systems as we anticipate rapid growth over the next few years. If you’re up for it, this role could include people leadership of a diverse group of highly motivated and talented engineers.
Who we’re looking for
- A proven track record as a software engineer who wants to be hands-on. Ideally you have experience with Kotlin, Java and AWS.
- Passionate about coaching and mentoring fellow engineers.
- You’re a leader and have experience setting technical direction for your team.
- You love solving hard problems and know how to scale backend systems with extremely high-reliability requirements.
- You thrive in ambiguity and don’t mind working with evolving requirements and perform at your best with high levels of ownership and accountability.
- You’re a team player that drives the team’s performance and excels in giving and receiving feedback.
What your day could look like
- Mostly hands-on coding to deliver high-quality and reliable software
- Mentoring and coaching fellow engineers in your team
- Lead and contribute to cross-functional brainstorming and design sessions
- Lead cross-functional projects
- Assess incoming support queries and action appropriately
- Identify, fix and prevent problems as you maintain our backend systems
- Be a part of our 24/7 on-call support roster.
