The Opportunity:

We have a fantastic opportunity for an Assistant Management Accountant to join our Finance team at BestStart’s Tauranga Support Office. In this role, you’ll play a key part in managing financial processes across CAPEX, OPEX, fixed assets, and month-end reporting. It’s a great chance to bring your analytical skills and accounting knowledge to a purpose-led organisation, while growing your career in a supportive and collaborative environment.

What you’ll be doing day to day:

  • Maintaining WIP schedules ensuring the capital expenditure process is adhered to
  • Managing the fixed assets register, including additions and disposals
  • Leading the close-off process for new developments, including cost analysis and journal posting
  • Month-end processing and reporting for fixed assets, new developments, and expenditure
  • Process depreciation and stock journals monthly
  • Completing balance sheet reconciliations (CAPEX/WIP, OPEX, Stock, Fixed Assets)
  • Providing timely and accurate reports to support other business areas
  • Assisting with the annual audit, ensuring all requested documentation is accurate and provided on time


What we’re looking for:

  • 2–3 years’ accounting experience, ideally in medium to large organisations
  • Strong background in monthly reporting, reconciliation, and financial analysis
  • Accountancy qualification or similar is desirable but not essential
  • A sharp, analytical mindset with high attention to detail
  • Excellent working knowledge of accounting systems
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • Experience in process improvement initiatives would be a bonus
  • A proactive, positive team player with a collaborative approach
  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure while managing competing priorities
  • Clear and confident communication skills – both written and verbal
  • Self-motivated, innovative, and open to thinking outside the box
