KiwiRail is at the heart of New Zealand’s transport network, ensuring safe and sustainable rail operations. Our Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) team plays a vital role in detecting track defects before they become issues. If you have an eye for detail and a commitment to safety, join us as an NDT Operator.
He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role
As an NDT Operator, you will inspect railway tracks using specialised ultrasonic and electromagnetic testing equipment. Your work will help prevent failures and ensure a reliable rail network.
This role involves:
Conducting detailed inspections of rail tracks and infrastructure
Using advanced testing equipment to detect defects
Recording and reporting findings accurately
Working outdoors in a hands-on, team-focused environment
Following strict safety protocols

To succeed in this role, you will have:
Experience in Non-Destructive Testing or a related technical field
Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
A commitment to safety and working in compliance with regulations
Physical fitness and the ability to work in all weather conditions
A full driver’s licence (Class 1 required, Class 2 desirable).
A willingness to travel when needed
Certifications in ultrasonic or electromagnetic testing are preferred but not essential – we can support the right candidate in obtaining qualifications.
