Wellington City Council serves the residents and businesses of Wellington, and the Parking Services team play an important part by supporting Wellington City Council's long-term plan and vision around transport.

As a Parking Officer, you will promote compliance with city parking regulations and manage the turnover of parking space, while easing the safe movement of people and goods within Wellington City.

Our Parking Officers connect with the public on a regular basis and spend most of their time outdoors in and around the city. On any given day you can cover up to 20km of city streets and parking areas.

In this dynamic job you will:

  • be the "face" of Wellington City Council
  • use your customer service skills to promote positive public relations
  • help to keep Wellington moving
  • actively issue infringements to non-compliant vehicles
  • ensure your assigned area is monitored effectively.


Key things to be successful in this role are:

  • good physical fitness with the ability to walk long distances (up to 20km a day), rain, hail or shine
  • natural ability to build rapport with customers
  • have the ability to deal with the public positively with a positive attitude and high energy
  • good problem-solving skills and written and numeracy skills
  • being comfortable with and adaptable to modern communication technologies
  • ability to work without direct supervision team orientation

This is a permanent (up to 40 hours/week) role working on a rotating roster of varying start/finish times (between 6.30am - 10.30pm) including some Friday late shifts and weekend shifts, to meet the needs of the City.

Also, for the 2 weeks induction/ training period, we need people to commit to full time hours starting from 8am - 5pm.

You will need to at least hold a Restricted Driver's license to be considered.

Applicants must be prepared to undergo pre-employment health assessment and drug and alcohol screening if short-listed. There is also a Ministry of Justice check. Candidates must be eligible to work in New Zealand.
