Job Description

AFFCO Castlecliff is one of New Zealand’s leading manufacturers of premium beef and pork products. Here at AFFCO Castlecliff we currently have an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled and motivated Maintenance Fitter to join our busy engineering team based at our site in Whanganui.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be part of strong team of fitters and electricians conducting general maintenance and improvement projects across the plant. The position ensures plant assets are managed and maintained to enhances the company’s short- and long-term objectives, as well as minimising production downtime.


Responsibilities include:

  • At all times working to the best Health and safety practices and actively improving H&S systems on site.
  • Maintenance and repairing jobs within the meat processing plant.
  • Ensuring plant reliability, diagnostics, and repair, as well as being involved in the commissioning of additional plant and equipment.
  • Studying drawings and specifications to determine suitable material, method and sequence of operations, and machine settings.
  • Fits and assembles metal parts and sub-assemblies to fabricate production machines and other equipment.
  • Engineering trade skill works such as welding, cutting, grinding, drilling etc.
  • Diagnosing faults and performing operational maintenance of machines and overhauling and repairing electrical parts and equipment.
  • Erect machines and equipment on-site.
  • Minimize the production breakdown time and increase the plant efficiency

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and skills:

  • Ability to minimise production downtime
  • Ability to fault find and work under pressure
  • Qualification within the engineering trades
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple competing priorities
  • Extensive prior maintenance experience in an industrial environment
  • Intermediate computer literacy
  • Experience in a similar role is preferred but not essential - most important is your great attitude and willingness to be a positive part of the team.
