Job Description

Are you a seasoned professional with a passion for building compliance and a knack for leadership? Far North District Council is seeking a dynamic Team Leader to oversee our Building Compliance team. In this pivotal role, you will ensure that our district's buildings meet all regulatory standards, contributing to the safety and well-being of our community.

Te Wero – The Challenge

As Team Leader-Building Compliance, you will lead a dedicated team of compliance officers, providing guidance, support, and expertise. Your responsibilities will include managing TA compliance processes, conducting inspections, and liaising with stakeholders to ensure adherence to the Building Act 2004, Building Regulations and New Zealand Building Code. By embracing this challenge, you will play a vital role in upholding the integrity and safety of building practices, contributing to the overall success and reputation of the organisation.

I ā koe - About You

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a Regulation 18 qualification
  • Possess experience processing building consent applications, certificate of acceptance applications, and applications for exemption from requiring building consent.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of New Zealand Building Code Clause F9 Restricting access to residential pools
  • Have a thorough understanding of the legislative requirements surrounding Building Warrants of Fitness (BWOF’s) and compliance schedules
  • Possess previous experience in enforcement, issuing Notices to Fix for unauthorised building work, and court proceedings
  • Collaborate with the Manager – Building Services on various projects and ad-hoc tasks
  • Be able to demonstrate previous experience leading a successful team
  • Have the ability to coach and train team members in the technical aspects of the role
  • Contribute to Council Civil Defence duties if needed as required
  • Commit to Health & Safety compliance as per policies and the Health & Safety in the Workplace Act
  • Provide input on new policies and procedures for the Building Compliance department
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills for collaboration and cooperation
  • Be organised, prioritises tasks, and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to excellent customer service
  • Possess proven written and oral communication skills and have advanced documentation, report, and workflow writing skills
  • Relate well to a wide range of people internally and externally and work to build and maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders
  • Aim for the best outcomes for the community
