We're Working for Wellington. Wellington City Council's team provides more than 400 services every day for Wellingtonians - everything from parks and pools to consents and cemeteries - playing our part in making Pōneke an inclusive, sustainable, and creative capital for people to live, work and play.

Our Finance team is the engine room here at council where we encourage team members to develop their capability and capacity, influence and respond more effectively to change and deliver an even better service to our Wellington City Council whanau.

Having just recently reimagined our strategy and finance structure, we are now we're looking for a new Manager - Capital and Project Accounting to be a key driver in this exciting new phase. This is an incredible opportunity to lead change, influence our financial processes, and deliver lasting impact for our city.

Your Role in Leading Change:
As the Manager for Capital and Project Accounting, you'll be at the forefront of transformation. You will:

  • Establish and champion the financial standards for fixed assets (consisting of $11.7b of property, plant and equipment along with investment properties) in addition to project accounting across Council, ensuring they are aligned with our vision for the future
  • Safeguard the integrity of our General Ledger and Fixed Asset Register, ensuring they evolve to meet changing needs
  • Lead the management of regular asset revaluations, contributing to better decision-making
  • Inspire and lead a team of passionate professionals, providing guidance
  • Drive the establishment and maintenance of internal controls, while becoming the go-to advisor for all fixed asset and capital project accounting matters across Council


What You'll Bring to the Table:
We are looking for someone who thrives on leading change and has a clear vision for the future of public sector accounting. You'll have:

  • A solid track record in accountancy, particularly in managing fixed assets and project accounting
  • A tertiary qualification in finance or accounting with a least 10 years experience working in large complex fixed assets and project accounting environments (professional membership - CA ANZ or equivalent, is preferred)
  • Experience leading teams, with a focus on mentoring, developing, and empowering others
  • The ability to interpret complex financial standards and apply them in dynamic, real-world situations
  • A natural communicator, able to convey financial concepts in a clear, impactful way to diverse audiences
