Mō te tūnga | About the role
We are seeking a proactive, passionate , and experienced leader to join us at Oranga Tamariki as the Manager National Family Homes for our Youth Justice Services and Residential Care group.
You will be forward focused and responsible for leading out the future of the Family Homes as well as ensuring that we are delivering consistent, safe, and appropriate care for tamariki across our national network of Family Homes. You are a motivated people centred leader with great interpersonal skills who has a background in trauma responsive care, as well as the ability to oversee a dynamic and high-risk 24/7 service.
You lead in a way that inspires and enables the Family Homes to be a welcoming and safe space where tamariki feel understood, supported and cared for. You build strong, collaborative, and supportive relationships across both Oranga Tamariki and our external partners to ensure that that the broader children's system is available to support rangatahi and tamariki in Family Homes
Day to day, you oversee the operations and logistics of 12 Family Homes. You will work closely with the National Homes Team and the Family Homes leaders to ensure that our regulatory obligations are fulfilled and that our teams are supported to identify and respond to areas of critical risk. We will look to you for the information and insight that is needed to ensure that best practice is both in place and properly embedded into our ways of working across our network of Family Homes.

The experience of our staff and caregivers in Homes and our tamariki and rangatahi in our care is a critical priority for us, so we expect a lot from our leadership team - they are pivotal in leading and role modelling our values and vision . You must be not afraid to get involved in the details when needed and be able to bring a solutions focus to the heart of an issue .
You are a resilient change leader who is able to challenge the status quo to ensure that we are delivering the best standard of care for tamariki. You are a role model in your leadership style - you are able to work collaboratively to set clear goals, inspire and motivate teams to work towards these goals and hold yourself and your team to account. . You are able to call out issues when you see them and take action to solve problems. . You are calm under pressure and can lead influentially and effectively in a crisis.
Key requirements of the role include:
- Experience of leading operational teams in a large complex organisation preferable in a care setting.
- Background in the social services sector or related fields.
- Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples' culture

Annual remuneration for this position starts between $147,010 and $162,887 dependant on experience.
