Technician
Auckland Zoo is looking for a Technician to help deliver the technical and operational services needed to maintain and develop our zoo’s incredible habitats, facilities, and infrastructure. In this diverse and meaningful role, you’ll be part of a dedicated team keeping everything running safely and smoothly—for animals, visitors, and staff alike.

A day in the life:

  • Maintaining and improving zoo assets, including animal enclosures, buildings, and public spaces
  • Delivering small to medium construction projects and new builds
  • Providing specialist skills or operational support across:
  • Carpentry, painting & decorating
  • Landscaping, concreting, fencing, decks, stonework
  • Welding & fabrication
  • Electrical, plumbing, gas, refrigeration, HVAC
  • Supporting the Zoo Facilities team’s day-to-day operations
  • Collaborating across departments on exciting, innovative projects


This is a permanent, full-time role of 40 hours per week based on a roster that may include weekends and public holidays.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Physically fit and ready for hands-on work, rain or shine
  • A team player who can also work independently and safely
  • Adaptable—ready to take on varied tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Customer-focused with strong communication skills
  • Comfortable with flexible working hours, including weekends and occasional after-hours work


To be considered for the role you will need:

  • A full NZ driver’s licence (manual)
  • Plumbing qualification or experience would be so good but still apply if you don’t have this!
  • Class 2–4 licences and F, T, W endorsements (advantageous, pleases still apply if you don’t have but are willing to attain)
  • Demonstrated experience in facilities maintenance or construction
  • Relevant trade qualification or certification (desirable, please still apply if not)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and mobile-based work systems

Salary range: $57,824.00 – $67,816.32, per annum, based on skillset and experience.
