About the Role - Kōrero mō te Tūranga

We are looking for a People Adviser to provide advice and support across workforce planning, remuneration, employment agreements, employment legislation, employment relations, change management and performance management. Your HR qualification will be put to great use within this busy team.

Our People Advisers provide advice and support to People Leaders as trusted advisers. This is a busy generalist role that requires resilience, agility, and a strong customer-focus.

The goal is to achieve successful results in the following areas:

  • Developing people capability for a diverse organisation
  • Providing customer-centric products and services as an agile and trusted adviser
  • Working collaboratively within the People and Capability Directorate, and across MPI.


About You - Mōu

Key to your success in this role will be your excellent relationship management skills – you need to be able to quickly develop and maintain trust and confidence with key customers and senior leaders across a wide range of disciplines. Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) is essential.

  • Naturally, you will offer previous experience in generalist HR work within a large and complex organisation as a customer-focused and trusted adviser.
  • Experience in implementing and embedding organisational change to help to achieve its objectives
  • Knowledge of relevant and current employment legislation
  • Previous experience working with and navigating collective employment agreements in an operational environment is advantageous
  • A strong communicator and effective at building trusted relationships with a national team spread across multiple locations, People Leaders and staff, employee representatives and unions.

About the Team - Mō tō mātou Rōpū

Our People Advisory team are based in Wellington, Christchurch, and Auckland. Providing trusted advice on strategy as well as policy and programmes aligned to our strategy. We provide advice and support to staff on employment relations, conduct, remuneration, negotiating collective agreements, change management and much more. We also work with managers on developing strategies for growing their teams' leadership and management capability, and help teams realise their potential.

About MPI - Mō te Manatū Ahu Matua

Our role includes seizing export opportunities for our food and fibre sector, improving sector productivity, ensuring the food we produce is safe, increasing sustainable resource use, and protecting New Zealand from biological risk.
