We provide specialist behaviour support services to people with disabilities of all ages by working with their families/whanau and support networks. About the role | He kōrero whakamārama mō tēnei tūranga

The key purpose of the Behaviour Specialist - Psychologist role is to deliver quality services based on a positive behaviour support framework which is consistent with our contract obligations with Whaikaha and other providers as required. The role will be based in Northland/ Te Tai Tokerau. Our office is based in Whangārei, and we will consider remote working arrangements if located further north.

What you will bring | Ngā tohungatanga mō tēnei tūranga

  • Experience in the field of disability and/or behaviour support
  • A current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC)
  • Registration with the New Zealand Psychologists Board
  • Minimum 3 years experience
  • An understanding of and commitment to: The Code of Health and Disabilities Services Consumer Rights, The Treaty of Waitangi and bi-cultural practice
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport; proactive and responsive to client needs and colleagues/team needs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including competence in professional report writing
  • A current full New Zealand driver's licence
  • Proven ability to work in teams and in a 'transdisciplinary' manner
  • Knowledge and understanding of the principles of evidence-based behavioural approaches
  • An understanding of Positive Behaviour Support
  • An understanding of communication and the relationship with behaviour
  • Experience of functional assessment and implementation of a behaviour plan
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and client management systems
  • Ability to travel and flexibility to stay overnight to meet the demands of the role
  • Ability to work autonomously while consistently providing high quality and timely clinical services
