Job Description

Qualified Relief ECE Kaiako

Calling all passionate and qualified ECE relievers!

We are now in autumn and before we know it will be winter and at Ngā Tamariki Puāwai o Tāmaki | Auckland Kindergarten Association (AKA) we are looking for amazing relievers to join our friendly whānau across Auckland kindergartens.

Why choose AKA for your relieving work?

  • Flexible schedule: Find work that fits your lifestyle, whether it's day-to-day, short-term, long-term, or casual relieving.
  • Competitive pay: We offer competitive salaries based on experience as per the Kindergarten Teachers, Head Teachers and Senior Teachers Collective Agreement (2023-2026).
  • Great work-life balance: Enjoy school holidays off and shorter working hours (child contact time only, typically 6-7 hours between 8.30am-3.30pm). Perfect for those with whānau!
  • Supportive environment: Work alongside inspiring and passionate teams who value relievers as an essential part of the AKA whānau.
  • Career development: Relieving can open doors to permanent teaching positions at AKA. Many relievers have landed their dream jobs with us!
  • Making a difference: Be part of a well-respected charitable organisation with a long history (established in 1908) of nurturing Auckland's youngest minds.

Hear what one of our relievers who has now secured a permanent position AKA has to say:

Rachel: "Working as a reliever I have been to a variety of kindergartens and have been inspired by so many incredible teachers. After nearly 30 years in the ECE sector it is easy to assume you 'have the hang of it' but this position has afforded me the opportunity to challenge my teaching. For me this has been the best form of Professional Development. I have been inspired, I have been challenged, I have been on a fantastic journey of learning and fun."

What we're looking for:

  • Qualified ECE kaiako with a New Zealand ECE qualification (or NZQA-assessed equivalent overseas ECE qualification).
  • Registered kaiako in NZ with a current practicing certificate.
  • Current First Aid certificate.
  • Commitment to providing high-quality kindergarten experiences.
  • Flexibility, excellent communication skills, and initiative.
  • Competence and confidence using technology in teaching.

Ready to join a warm and welcoming team that makes a real difference? Apply Now! (Applications close 3rd April 2025).

Please Indicate your preferred Auckland areas for relieving opportunities.

Note:

  • Statement of Service from previous employers required to calculate pay rate (if successful).
  • Legal right to live and work in New Zealand is mandatory.
  • AKA encourages COVID-19 vaccination (though not mandatory).
