Job Description
Microsurfacing is hitting the ground in New Zealand with Downer Transport & Infrastructure this year. This is a modern technique that we are proudly introducing to our clients across the country. As such, we are building a crew of sealing professionals to be trained by our Downer experts from Australia.

What is Microsurfacing?
Microsurfacing is one of Downer’s key pavement preservation capabilities. Microsurfacing provides pavement shape correction and a quiet and smooth riding surface with similar aesthetics to asphalt. It is applied at ambient temperature, reducing carbon emissions and allowing a rapid return to normal traffic flows. As a further benefit, reflective pavement cracking can be reduced by up to 30% through the use of fibre-reinforced microsurfacing.

We have the following Surfacing jobs available:

  • General Labourers – Site preparation, tractor sweeping, plastic at job start, pavement markers and squeegee joints. Class 1 license required.
  • Operator/Drivers – Loads feeders at stockpile, and manages stockpile overall for raw materials received. Class 2-5 and WTR preferred.
  • Paver Operators – Drives the Paver machine, Operate the Mixer and control the mix manufacture process, load raw materials onto machine in motion. Class 2 Licence & WTR required.
  • Truck Drivers – Drive feeder machine. Class 5 license required.
  • Quality Assurance Technician – Support with on-site administration, collating Zero Harm, Quality Assurance and field reports. Full license required.
  • Leading Hand – Acting as a 2IC to the Foreperson, running paving operations and working with levels/ground team. 1-5 Licenses beneficial.
  • Foreperson - Run paving operations and direct crew. 1-5 Licenses beneficial.
  • Supervisor – Supervise site operations and crew, driving operational excellence and project delivery. Licenses beneficial.


These opportunities are Permanent, Full-Time roles based from our Penrose, Auckland depot. Occasional travel across the country will be required to support Surfacing works Nationally.

We are looking for people with Road surfacing or Civil maintenance/construction experience.

  • You will have a keen interest in developing your skillset and training to execute Microsurfacing and Rejuvenation Surfacing works.
  • Relevant licenses are beneficial.
  • Positive, can-do attitude essential
  • You’ll demonstrate a focus on collaborative teamwork, project delivery, and zero harm
  • The flexibility to undertake occasional travel is essential
