We are currently looking for a Medical Advisor – Registered Nurses, to join our team at NZ Police, the lead agency responsible for reducing crime and enhancing community safety. You will be working with a hard-working and enthusiastic team who are part of a high performing Safer People Medical Services team.

As a Medical Advisor – Registered Nurse you will act as a source of specialist information and advice in the pre-employment medical clearance process for Sworn staff. This will include providing primary care and occupational health nursing services to NZ Police. You will be a registered Senior Nurse with > 5 years’ experience within primary care, who will be based at the RNZPC. You will provide assessments, medical advice and ensure the fitness and well-being of our people, particularly our new recruits.

The position is Wellington based, and the successful applicant must reside within District.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Ensures new police recruits who attend the RNZPC Health Clinic are provided with an excellent primary care and occupational health service and are assessed, treated, and referred on as appropriate.
  • Strong communication skills and understanding of medical language as is relevant to pre-employment medical assessments during the recruiting process into police.
  • Providing advice and recommendations to applicants following the outcome of the medical clearance.
  • Ensuring ongoing well-being of our people with regular check-ups and health promotion.
  • Administering vaccinations and providing occupational health services where applicable.
  • Look for opportunities for continuous improvement.

Qualifications Required:

  • Successful applicants must be a NZ Registered Comprehensive or General Nurse and have independent authorised vaccinator status
  • Successful applicants must have a minimum of five (5) years of contemporary knowledge and experience in occupational health and/or primary health care.
  • Successful applicants must have a valid Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) with the Nursing Council of NZ with no restrictions
  • Previous demonstrated experience in Primary care nursing and Mental Health
  • Excellent computer and data entry skills including Full Microsoft suite, Outlook & experience with patient management systems

Utu ā-tau | Salary

This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence between $87,306 and $91,353 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
