The Data & Analytics Engineering community takes care of ASB's data warehousing environments, extracts data from systems, and transforms it into a format that helps our organisation make insightful business decisions. The community has several squads, made up of Business Intelligence Engineers, Analytics Aficionados, Transformative Data Modellers, Cloud Data Dabblers, and SQL Magicians.
Mō te Tūranga | About the Role
In this role, you will be responsible for contributing to the design, delivery, and operation of world-class data solutions. You will help your autonomous squad drive uplift in the data capability at ASB by contributing to the planning, implementation, and support of on-premise and cloud-based solutions that are fit for the future. Supporting internal customers, you will deliver high-quality data & analytics engineering solutions.
The role is internally referred to as Senior Analytics Engineer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Detailed analysis and design, converting stakeholder requirements into implementable designs for dimensional models, ETL/ELT processes, and other data solutions.
- Consideration of both functional and non-functional requirements, understanding of risk control guardrails, and usability in solution design.
- Delivery of solutions and recommendations that will meet stakeholder needs, conform to existing development standards, and achieve high levels of operational optimisation and simplification.

You will bring to the role 5 or more years of experience from within a data-savvy organisation and are familiar with working in an Agile environment. You enjoy working within a team environment and can build and maintain effective relationships across a diverse range of customer and stakeholder groups.
Ngā mea kia whai angitū ahau? | What Do I Need to Be Successful?
- Technically, you will have strong SQL skills, and experience with ETL/ELT tools like Wherescape RED, Talend, Informatica, etc.
- You'll also have some knowledge of cloud-based data tools such as Snowflake, dbt, Databricks, etc., and maybe some API skills.
- Our technical landscape is changing and adapting, so the right attitude and an enthusiasm for learning new things will help you quickly learn any technical skills that you may be missing.
