The Senior Payroll Consultant is a critical role, you will not only ensure that our kaimahi are paid on time, but you will also maintain a high level of integrity of people data and customer service with plenty of opportunities to create efficiencies and to continuously improve our Payroll & HRIS function.

This is a fixed term role through to December 2025 covering our amazing Rae who is going on parental leave. This is a great opportunity for someone who thrives in high performing team with a focus on enabling our people to deliver great services to our communities.

Āu ake mahi | What you'll do
As a Senior Payroll Consultant, you will play a leading role in managing and optimizing our payroll function. You will be the subject matter expert providing support and guidance on complex payroll issues within your portfolio, ensuring compliance with regulations and policies, and working collaboratively to deliver efficient payroll services to our kaimahi and CCO's.

This position offers the opportunity to influence payroll systems, help mentor staff, and ensure our payroll process serves the needs of our kaimahi.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee the end-to-end payroll process within your portfolio, ensuring timely and accurate processing of salaries, and other benefits.
  • Provide expert advice on payroll best practices and compliance with payroll regulations.
  • Collaborate to resolve payroll issues, ensure smooth coordination between departments, and address any system or process-related challenges.
  • Identify of areas within HRIS that need improvement and assist in the management and implementation of payroll software and system updates, including configuration, testing, and user training if required.
  • Ensure our CCOs are kept informed about the progress of each pay run and they get the respective reports they need.
  • Ensure any issues with payroll processing are raised at the earliest convenience minimizing the impact on the pay periods
  • Create output files for desk banking, IRD, our vendors and the respective agencies
  • Prepare and support payroll audits, ensuring timely and accurate reports for internal and external audits, and addressing any audit findings.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement within payroll processes, driving efficiency.
  • Stay up-to-date on changes to regulations and advise on necessary policy adjustments or system updates.


Ngā tohu me ngā wheako | Qualifications and experience

  • Experience in payroll management at a senior level, with a strong understanding of payroll systems and regulations.
  • Techone experience is desired but not compulsory as training can be provided
  • Extensive experience with payroll software and HRIS systems.
  • Strong experience with payroll process improvement, system implementation, and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex payroll concepts to non-specialists and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
