Mō te Tūranga | About the Role
Are you ready to take charge from start to finish? As a Liability Claims Counsel, you’ll manage end-to-end claims across various policies, including professional indemnity, D&O, and employment disputes.
This role involves managing claims processes, resolving indemnity issues, and ensuring compliance with company guidelines. You’ll work closely with the IAG legal panel, providing instructions on high court litigation and on personal grievance claims. You’ll also mentor claims specialists, build stakeholder relationships, and maintain accurate records. Your role also involves participation in judicial settlement conferences and mediations, staying updated on industry developments, and ensuring quality assurance are key aspects.

This is a permanent full-time hybrid role open to our offices in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington) & Ōtautahi (Christchurch), New Zealand.

Ōu Pūkenga | About You
To be successful in the role, you’ll ideally have/ be:
- Admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand and hold a current NZLS practising certificate.
- Sound demonstrated liability claims handling experience and/or insurance litigation expertise.
- Experience with employment law principles
- Excellent written communication skills and the ability to communicate difficult concepts clearly to those without a legal background.
- Critical analytical skills that enable you to get to the crux of a dispute quickly.
- Open to coaching, feedback, and personal development, while being innovative and seeking improvements.
- Effective team player, contributing to shared goals and building a constructive team environment.
- Results-driven with a strong commitment to achieving business goals and building strategic relationships within and outside the business.
