About the Role - Kōrero mō te Tūranga
A Biosecurity Compliance Officer is responsible for undertaking biosecurity related investigations where low to medium level breaches of the Regulations and Acts administered by the Ministry for Primary Industries.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Investigative actions where offences are alleged including interviews and evidence collection for the purposes of criminal prosecution
- Working with Compliance Officers and Investigators to prepare and present robust prosecution cases where non-compliance has been identified
- Contribution to the development of sector/team/annual plans for Biosecurity Compliance Services
About You - Mōu
To be successful in this role, you'll ideally have experience or qualifactions in leading investigations, including the interpretation and application of relevant legislation, regulations and legal requirements, and construction of investigation files.
In addition to the above, we are seeking an applicant with:
- Knowledge of the biosecurity system and a warrant under the Biosecurity Act 1993 (desired but not essential to apply)
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate broadly across a range of stakeholders
- The ability to digest large amounts of information and pull out the relevant and important elements to support the case you've built
- An inquisitive nature, with the ability to interview individuals, collect evidence, and deploy a range of modern investigative techniques
- Excellent time management skills, with the ability to plan and prioritise your time effectively

About the Team - Mō tō mātou Rōpū
Sitting within the Biosecurity Intelligence and Systems directorate, the new Investigations team is will be made up of seven Biosecurity Compliance Officers and will report the Team Manager Compliance within Biosecurity New Zealand. You will work along side our biosecurity officers and investigators across the organisation.
