Job Description

Bay Venues …. Haven’t heard of us? Not to worry; I bet you have heard of some of the venues we own or operate – the iconic Mount Hot Pools, Baywave, or Mercury Baypark to name a few. As the kaitiaki of 24 facilities in Tauranga Moana, we proudly offer a range of activities and experiences intended to put a smile on the dial of our community.

Here at Bay Venues, we are all about ensuring we create memorable moments - and we do so intentionally through connection and fun with each other and our community. Our values of Manaakitanga (Service), Whakawhanaungatanga (Relationships), Kaitiakitanga (Caring) and He Toi Tangata (Excellence) are lived on the daily as we strive to enhance the wellbeing of the people we serve. It’s no small feat, but we know that when we facilitate connections and collaborate with others, great things will happen!

We currently have a full-time vacancy for an active and enthusiastic individual who loves to be part of the action, to join our team as a Venue Attendant at Tauranga’s newest indoor sport and recreation facility, University of Waikato Haumaru Sport & Recreation Centre located at 483 Cameron Road Tauranga.

Based at the University of Waikato Haumaru Sport & Recreation Centre, you will be responsible for assisting in the operation of the Centre. Tasks will include undertaking general site maintenance, assisting in the set up/pack down of sports equipment for leagues, competitions or tournaments and events, some reception and customer service tasks as well as undertaking cleaning of the venue and equipment as required.

To be successful you must:

  • Be experienced in this line of work or have worked in a similar environment proactively managing service delivery.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills with a high attention to detail.
  • Have experience in delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Be a committed team player, who is able to act in a proactive manner.
  • Be physically fit as some heavy lifting is required.
  • Be professional in your demeanour and think clearly when under pressure.
  • Maintain a high standard of personal presentation.
  • Able to use a computer/tablet competently as well as being reasonably fluent in Microsoft suite. Experience using a leisure management system or booking system would be advantageous.
  • Current first aid is desirable but not essential.

Experience in the sport, recreation industry or working in or with community groups would stand you apart from the crowd.
The hours available are Sunday – Thursday with some shifts rostered until 10pm.

Occasionally the hours will extend to include more weekend work, especially during events. This is rostered with you ahead of time. Flexibility is essential as this is determined by business demands. In return, our remuneration package includes a competitive wage with excellent staff benefits.

We have put together a bunch of perks to support our culture of connection and fun. Ones that reinforce that we are part of the awesome leisure and events industry, and all the magic that comes along with that. Our benefits include:

  • a gym membership to our ClubFit Gyms,
  • access to our five aquatic facilities including BayWave and Mount Hot Pools,
  • subsidised speedway passes and generous discounts on our programmes, services and merchandise,
  • heavily subsidised coffee at our on-site cafes,
  • access to a range of development opportunities through our Learning & Development programme

So why not join us? We have the right purpose to fuel meaningful careers, the right attitude to support work life balance, and the right leadership to foster an amazing culture. No matter your age and stage you may be, we are an inclusive bunch all driven by our vision of creating The Best Venues for the Bay. Come on – take the punt; you won’t regret it!
