An opportunity has arisen for you to join Westpac’s Corporate and Commercial legal team delivering high quality legal support and advice across the bank. We are looking for an astute lawyer to join the team as a Senior Legal Counsel and report into the Head of Legal Corporate & Commercial.
The role is offered on a fixed term basis as a maternity leave cover until the 30th January 2026.

Key responsibilities:
- Supporting a variety of corporate projects and strategic initiatives
- Drafting, negotiating, and advising on commercial arrangements, partnerships and M&A transactions
- Understanding the needs of the business and providing timely, commercial, and accurate legal advice
- Ensuring the business is operating within its regulatory obligations and risk appetite
- Fostering excellent working relationships with the wider Westpac legal team and business units
Nā tāu rourou | What will you bring?
- Bachelor of Laws (or equivalent) and NZ Practicing Certificate
- Qualified solicitor with 8+ years’ post admission experience, preferably with financial services experience
- Proven experience in corporate and commercial negotiations
- Data, digital and technology experience is beneficial but not essential
