The Parks Operations team provide a crucial customer facing support service, ensuring the city's residents and visitors enjoy a well-managed and maintained environment. The tree team play a crucial role ensuring that Wellington's trees are safe and well managed for everyone to enjoy and benefit from. Our team is responsible for:
- Day to day maintenance of over 14,000 street trees and 700km of road network
- Maintaining Wellington's Parks and Reserves, including Karori cemetery, Botanic Gardens and Town Belt
- Contributing to the safe and efficient day to day running of the team and its resourcesLooking for an opportunity to join a motivated and skilled team responsible for the maintenance and care of Wellingtons tree population? Āu ake mahi | What you'll do
In this role, you will be responsible for carrying out all operations relating to tree works and assist with the development of the Arboriculture team. You will gain experience in a vast array of arboriculture work including complex tree removals in Karori cemetery, fine pruning in the botanic gardens, road network maintenance and risk assessing trees throughout the city. You will be part of a passionate team who care for trees and hold themselves and their work to the highest standard.

As well as being passionate about trees and working as part of a team you'll need to have the following:
- Level 3 qualification or above in Arboriculture
- A professional manner and a demonstrated commitment to providing a safe and efficient working environment for you and your team
- A keen interest to develop your skills, experience, and qualifications.
- Because this is a safety sensitive role, all the shortlisted candidates must be prepared to undergo a Ministry of Justice and health checks including drug and alcohol screening as part of the pre-employment process.
