Job Description

Downer’s Road Science business is a leading manufacturer and supplier of bitumen and bitumen-based products for the civil contracting industry. With four world-class bitumen manufacturing plants and storage facilities, and seven asphalt production plants throughout New Zealand, Downer is an innovator in the asphalt circular economy – using recycled products and environmentally sustainable methods to produce asphalt.

We are seeking a driven and organised individual to join our team as Regional Asphalt Plant Administrator.

Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity

Based from the Ngauranga Asphalt Production Plant in Wellington, the Regional Administrator plays a fundamental support role to our asphalt plants in the Lower North and South Islands. In this busy and varied role, you will be tasked with ensuring administration functions are carried out to a consistently high level of service whilst striving for continuous improvement in our systems and processes.

Duties include:

  • Provide administrative support to the Regional and Production managers
  • Processing purchase orders, invoices and payments
  • Timely and accurate data entry and cost monitoring, ensuring costs are posted to the correct cost codes
  • Providing administration and coordination support for day-to-day operations
  • Processing sales, cash reconciliation and generating credit notes
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and procedures
  • Champion a Zero Harm culture by promoting and adhering to health and safety policies
  • Organise travel and accommodation for regional staff
  • Ordering PPE, uniform and day-to-day essentials
  • Provide support to colleagues within the hub model as required


Nga pūkenga matua | Important Skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a confident and friendly approach
  • Previous experience in a high-volume administrative role
  • The flexibility to adjust daily tasks to align with business needs
  • Proficient in Microsoft Applications (essential)
  • Knowledge and experience of JD Edwards, Speedscan, and Microsoft SharePoint is advantageous
  • Full Class 1 Drivers Licence is desirable but not essential
