Job Description

This role is key in executing processes within the Yashili plant. In addition to being pivotal in delivering high quality product in line with the production schedule on a daily basis, the role holder is also expected to develop their skills and experience in the various support activities required to operate the plant successfully. The role is expected to work across various Yashili plant and support functions as and when required. The role must meet defined targets for production, quality, health & safety, and effective team performance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Quality

  • Ensure quality and food safety policies are adhered to.
  • Conduct cleaning procedures to a high standard at the required frequency, in line with SOPs.
  • Take samples in line with the defined sampling plan.
  • Fill out all required documentation accurately and at the specified time.
  • Maintain a high level of personal and plant hygiene.
  • Ensure all, spec change and SKU change procedures are adhered to in line with SOPs.


Operational excellence

  • Operate the plant to the highest possible efficiency, while meeting the required specifications and quality requirements.
  • Follow the designated standard operating procedures without deviation.
  • Take ownership of the assigned work area and take pride in the plant condition and performance
  • Ensure the equipment is well maintained and cleaned to ensure reliability of the equipment.
  • Actively seek understanding of the equipment to become the subject matter expert on the equipment in your area.
  • Work actively to eliminate or reduce product and packaging losses.
  • Assist in the development and review of standard operating procedures.
  • Contribute to route cause analysis of plant or product related incidents.
  • Participation in other continuous improvement related activities.


Communication

  • To communicate any plant or product issues clearly and in a timely manner to the relevant stakeholders.
  • Routinely follow the escalation matrix.
  • Inform the shift manager of any deviation from running conditions/specifications without delay.


Other tasks

  • Operate a forklift as required by your assigned role.
  • Assist in routine maintenance and shutdown maintenance of the canning line.
  • Issue permit to work for your assigned plant.
  • Actively engage in training junior operators to increase their knowledge and understanding.
  • Assist the Canning Production Manager to test new products and packaging on the line as required.
  • Other duties as directed by the Shift Manager

Essential

  • Relevant workplace experience in a canning plant
  • Manufacturing or processing environment experience
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing techniques
  • Computer literate
  • Willingness to learn


Preferred

  • NCEA Level 4 Dairy Processing or equivalent qualification
  • Infant Formula/Nutritional powder canning plant operation
  • Proficient with ERP systems


This role requires shift work, and all successful candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment medical and drug screening.
