The Office of Student Experience (OSE) at Massey University plays a vital role in guiding and supporting our students (tauira) throughout their Massey Experience. We focus on empowering students to achieve their goals, engage with the University, and participate in their community while nurturing their holistic growth. As part of the OSE, our Recreation and Fitness Services team offers a range of active recreation opportunities to students, staff, and community members, promoting individual and collective wellbeing and connections. Our service is built around supporting the pillars of Te Whare Tapa Whā, with a focus on Taha Tinana (Physical Wellbeing).
About the Role:
We are seeking a Fitness Instructor on a fixed term contract to join our dynamic Recreation and Fitness Services team at the Manawatū campus, Palmerston North. In this diverse and essential role, you will provide outstanding customer service on the gym floor through a high level of interaction with members and visitors, adding value to their fitness and exercise experience. You will provide gym training programmes, lead small group training classes for our members and assisting the High-Performance Strength & Conditioning coach with athlete programmes and testing.
Position Details:
- Hours: Monday - Friday 8am - 4.30pm
- Weekly Hours: 37.5 hours per week
- Salary Band: $48,036 to $63,675 based on skills and experience
- Fixed Term: Fixed-term position until December 2025.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide high quality fitness services and advice to gym members.
- Provide a friendly, proactive & supportive small group training experience.
- Contribute to the daily administrative and operational tasks of the gym.

We are looking for a candidate with:
- A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- Commitment to delivering exceptional service to support membership growth and retention.
- Formal exercise and fitness education desirable.
- A graduate degree in any field is desirable.
