Our Road Science business is New Zealand’s leading designer and supplier of bitumen and bitumen-based products. We have world-class manufacturing plants and storage facilities for bitumen, emulsions, and polymer-modified binders. With five IANZ-accredited civil engineering laboratories, and a number of project-specific mobile laboratories, Road Science is driven by a passionate team of thinkers and do-ers - exceeding expectations, every time!
We are seeking a Technical Lead to oversee the maintenance of laboratory testing equipment, calibrations, and quality activities to meet business needs. The Technical Lead will collaborate with Operational Area Leads to optimise laboratory resource use and maintain efficient, timely testing processes in compliance with IANZ registration and company ISO 17205, 9001 and 14401 standards.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Providing technical and quality support to Operational Area Leads
- Ensuring laboratory work aligns with documented procedures and methods while maintaining the Downer Tikanga (values)
- Managing maintenance, calibration, and resource planning in conjunction with Operational Area Leads
- Training staff on technical processes, safety, and use of SOPs
- Collaborating with the Laboratory Systems Manager to ensure accurate data capture and reporting in Labware LIMS
In periods of reduced resource, the Technical Lead will step in to support areas with the highest need to minimise testing turnaround times.
Nga pūkenga matua | Important Skills
- Several years’ experience in a contracting industry/laboratory environment
- Experience in bitumen, emulsions, aggregate, soils, site testing, pavement testing, asphalt, mix design and asphalt performance is essential
- Strong technical background supported by a valid INAZ accredited KTP Signatory
- Experience in calibration is advantageous
- A focus and passion for keeping people and the environment safe
- Demonstrated leadership behaviours built on collaboration, excellence, courage and integrity
