Wellington Gardens comprises of Truby King Park, Bolton Street Memorial Park and two of the country's leading Botanic Gardens - Wellington Botanic Garden recognised as a Garden of National Significance by the Royal New Zealand Institute of Horticulture with 25 hectares of beautiful gardens and 150 years of history and Ōtari Native Botanic Garden which is a six-star garden of international significance. Our gardens play an important part in conservation, research, education, and recreation.

With a series of curated collections designed and cared for by our on-the-ground teams of dedicated kaimahi, we have an amazing range of beautiful, botanical plant species to see from all over the world, as well as collections that pay tribute to New Zealand's natural heritage.

We are now looking for someone passionate about customer service, retail, and creating engaging experiences for visitors to join the Wellington Gardens Visitor Experience Team as a Business Support Officer and help us deliver outstanding service in one of Wellington's most iconic spaces.



About the Role

As a Business Support Officer, you will play a vital role in managing the retail operation and front-of-house duties at the Botanic Garden Shop in the Treehouse Visitor Centre. You will also provide essential administrative support to the Wellington Gardens Team, contributing to the seamless operation of our visitor services. With over a million visits annually, this is your chance to be part of a team that enhances the reputation of our gardens and our vibrant city.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate and oversee retail operations.
  • Deliver exceptional front-of-house services.
  • Provide accurate information and assistance to garden visitors.
  • Support the team with general administration and coordination tasks.



About You

You are self-motivated, proactive, and thrive in a dynamic environment. You have a knack for communication and excel at building relationships with a diverse range of people. With strong organizational skills and a detail-oriented mindset, you take pride in your work and are ready to contribute to a collaborative team.

Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrable verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven experience in cash handling, stocktaking, and retail operations.
  • Strong administrative and coordination abilities.
  • Outstanding customer service and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite.
  • A track record of using initiative and being self-driven.
