Job Description

The New Zealand Herald is seeking an Executive Producer to drive audience engagement through compelling live and pre-recorded video news.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

Are you a creative and dynamic newsroom leader with a passion for delivering high-quality video content? In this pivotal role, you’ll lead the charge in ensuring breaking news is delivered swiftly, interviews captivate, and vital context is wrapped around significant news events and issues. Collaborating across teams, you’ll be a key player in shaping the future of our multiplatform video strategy, crafting innovative, audience-first stories that keep us ahead of the competition.

HOW YOU’LL DO IT:

  • Collaborate across editorial, journalism, and production teams to inspire and deliver exceptional content.
  • Oversee breaking news, live streams, and crafted or pre-produced video segments, ensuring they are engaging, accurate, and fast.
  • Mentor journalists, visual producers, and other team members, helping them deliver stories for video platforms.
  • Bring innovative ideas to the table, leveraging your understanding of audience behaviour and multiplatform strategies.
  • Step into hands-on roles when needed, whether scripting, producing, or briefing key talent.
  • Maintain a steadfast commitment to quality and accuracy, championing NZME’s editorial standards and code of ethics.


ABOUT YOU:

You’re a seasoned newsroom professional with a proven track record in video journalism and content production. You’ll bring:

  • You’ll have experience in programme production, ideally in a senior leadership role, including overseeing the overall output of video-based shows including editorial direction, look and feel and managing key talent.
  • A relevant qualification and/or significant experience in senior newsroom roles.
  • Expertise in multimedia content delivery, with a solid understanding of digital and broadcasting environments.
  • A collaborative mindset with a talent for inspiring and mentoring others.
  • A creative approach to storytelling across platforms, with a keen eye for engaging visuals and compelling narratives.
  • Strong news judgement, organisational skills, and the ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
