We are seeking a Contamination Inspector to identify, investigate and recommend corrective actions for contamination issues in waste handling and disposal. You will ensure compliance with regulations, monitor waste management practices, and collect samples for analysis.
Basic Role Information
- This position involves walking the streets in a team of two and inspecting recycling bins for contamination.
- The role is labouring with a small amount of data inputting and other labouring duties when required.
- Working hours are between 30-40 per week.
- Start date is ASAP and the position is ongoing.
- Mon-Fri - 6:30AM - 2:30/3PM (times may vary dependent on the weather).
- Class 1 license is preferred.
- All inspections are in Lower Hutt and a work vehicle is supplied to get to the inspection area.
Detailed Role and Responsibilities
Attention to Detail:
- Ability to thoroughly inspect facilities and identify potential problems.
Reporting and Communication:
- Report violations and communicate findings to facility managers, employees and the public.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Environmental Regulations:
- Familiarity with relevant laws and regulations related to waste management, hazardous waste, and water pollution.
Education and Outreach:
- Provide education and training on proper waste handling and disposal procedures to facility staff and the community.
Documentation and Recordkeeping:
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, investigations, and corrective actions.
Computer Skills:
- Proficiency in using computer systems for data entry, reporting, and recordkeeping.
Physical Stamina:
- Ability to conduct inspections in various environments, including outdoor sites and potentially hazardous areas.
Inspecting and Investigating:
- Inspect waste management facilities, including pretreatment, treatment, and disposal sites, for compliance with regulations and identify potential contamination risks.
Sample Collection and Analysis:
- Collect and analyse soil, water, and waste samples to assess contamination levels and identify potential hazards.
Compliance Monitoring:
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including labelling requirements, spill prevention programs, and hazardous waste disposal procedures.
Corrective Action Recommendations:
- Develop and recommend corrective actions for contamination incidents and waste management issues.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Stay up-to-date on relevant laws and regulations, and ensure compliance with all applicable standards.
Sampling and Analysis Techniques:
- Proficiency in collecting and analysing various types of samples (soil, water, waste).
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
- Ability to identify and analyse contamination issues, develop corrective actions, and troubleshoot problems.
