HOW YOU'LL DO IT:
Collaborate with editors, journalists, and multimedia teams to generate fresh, engaging content that resonates with audiences across all platforms.
Lead the development of innovative video, audio, and visual storytelling techniques, ensuring each piece is compelling and tailored for its intended platform.
Direct and coach journalists, visual journalists, and video producers to enhance their multimedia skills, ensuring they produce high-quality, captivating stories.
Respond quickly and decisively to breaking news, ensuring real-time, accurate delivery through multiple formats, including video, still images, and audio.
Work closely with the editorial team to pitch and plan story ideas, adapting content for maximum impact.
Manage interviews, preparing research notes, questions, and production elements that elevate storytelling and engage audiences.
Take ownership of the visuals budget, ensuring efficient use of resources while managing contributor and freelance costs.
Maintain strong communication and collaboration with other teams across NZME to ensure seamless, integrated news coverage.
Support the newsroom’s editorial mission, promoting a culture of excellence, accuracy, and trust.
ABOUT YOU:
You bring at least 10 years of experience in a senior newsroom role, with a proven track record in multimedia content delivery across digital and broadcast platforms.
You’re a natural leader, who excels at guiding teams, mentoring staff, and fostering a collaborative, high-performance environment where everyone can thrive.
You are passionate about breaking news and have the ability to stay calm under pressure, managing multiple tasks and changing priorities with ease.
With a keen understanding of audience needs, you use analytics and insights to tailor content that not only informs but captivates.
You possess excellent communication skills, able to confidently liaise with stakeholders inside and outside the organisation while maintaining strong relationships across the newsroom.
A strategic thinker, you bring vision and a forward-thinking approach, aligning your work with NZME’s goals and pushing the boundaries of storytelling to build engaged, loyal audiences.
