The Capital Projects Team function plays a critical role in delivering the capital infrastructure and capability needed to achieve some of Fonterra’s most important strategic business goals across our strategic Capital Projects. We specialise in planning, scoping, designing, and delivering large and complex investment projects alongside our national delivery partners. The successful outcomes are highly visible to the Fonterra Board, our Farmers, and the wider public. Our work is organised around four large portfolios of capital investment that target sustainability, environment, asset lifecycle, and growth. Each portfolio has a pipeline of complex programmes spanning many years.

We have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Capital Project’s Contracts Manager to join our Global Engineering and Technical (GET) Capital Projects team. This role plays a pivotal part in managing the lifecycle contractual aspects of our strategic capital projects, ensuring they are executed efficiently and effectively.
In this role you will:
- Collaborate with our project teams to develop and implement effective procurement strategies that align with our organizational goals and project requirements.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to project teams to enhance their contract management skills and overall project management capabilities.
- Lead and support contract negotiations to secure favorable terms and conditions, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards. Support all contractual aspects of capital projects, ensuring adherence to terms and conditions.
- Ensure contractual obligations are met by monitoring compliance and addressing any deviations promptly. Support the resolution of contractual disputes, working closely with legal and project teams.
- Identify potential risks related to contracts and advise/implement strategies to mitigate them. Support contingency plans to address unforeseen issues that may impact project timelines or budgets.
- Ensure the contractual work meets required standards and specifications through regular inspections and quality assurance processes. Implement corrective actions when necessary to address quality issues/deviations.
- Implement lessons learned and best practices to improve project delivery processes and outcomes.
You will be working closely with various managers, including the Capital Projects CoE Manager, Senior Commercial & Contracts Manager, Performance & Standards Manager and others to drive the success of our capital projects.
Please note that this role can be based at either Auckland, Hamilton or Christchurch locations and regular travel will be required for the role.

We are looking for someone who has the ability to interpret contracts, and able to guide our leaders through the tender process including helping create the tender documents, and help support, coach and advise through the evaluation and selection process.
We want to hear from you if you have:
- 5+ years experience in project management including contract negotiation, preferably with major construction projects.
- Knowledge of project management principles and practices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, contractors and team members.
- Strong financial and analytical skills.
