Job Description

Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Information Security Adviser to join our growing information security team. This role sits within our Security & Privacy Directorate under the Corporate Services business unit.

Your focus will be on security risk assessments and certification and assurance activities. These will be on a range of systems undergoing recertification, and new initiatives being delivered throughout the Ministry, ensuring appropriate information security measures are in place. You will work with the IT Security Manager (ITSM) to continuously improve the certification and assurance process so that it continues to support the Ministry's needs.

You will support and assist the Information Security Advisers and Analysts within the team. As well as developing and delivering staff security education and awareness, responding to information security incidents, staff requests and queries, and supporting our detection and response capability.

Carrying out certification activities as part of MPI's wider Certification and Accreditation (C&A) process will include:

  • Working with business and system owners to understand what risks their system may pose and how these may be managed or mitigated.
  • Reviewing supporting documentation and collecting evidence of controls to ensure it is complete and correct.
  • Advising on any changes to risk or threat profiles and making recommendations on remedial activities to manage any changes.
  • Support the continuous development of internal C&A processes as well as supporting information security advisors and analysts.
  • Support key organisational information security practices (such as Detect and Respond, Endpoint Security Enhancements and Secure by Design).
  • Monitor and provide advice on local and global information security threats and risks.
  • Support the wider information security team, Service Desk, and Security Operations Centre in responding to information security incidents.
  • Promote information security awareness to create and support a ‘security aware culture.'

Mōu - About You

You'll have solid experience in certification and assurance processes and are either a senior looking for something new or an Adviser looking to step up.

You will thrive being part of an agency that is serious about implementing good information security and be enthusiastic about certification and accreditation processes that are effective. There is an opportunity to engage with consultants and an ability to learn off them as well as interacting with IT vendors to get information.

You bring your agile and adaptable approach and your strong systems and process knowhow. Your pragmatic style and the ability to deal with ambiguity will help come to outcomes that keep our information secure. You are comfortable engaging in discussion and evidence your views on security topics. Of course you are open to views that challenge your ideas and take on new information to form the best way forward. You also have skills to develop a great understanding of our customers objectives highlighted by great communication skills.

It would be beneficial if you hold a recognised Information Security certification such as CISSP, CISM, or CISA, but this is not essential.
