Job Description

BestStart Waitangirua is looking for a passionate Teacher in Training to join our energetic and close-knit team.

Our centre is in the heart of Waitangirua, a diverse community where relationships with whānau are central to everything we do. We foster strong community connections through regular excursions and events, welcoming families to share their experiences.

About the Role

If you are passionate about teaching young children and are currently enrolled or considering enrollment in a Level 7 ECE programme, we want to hear from you.
This full-time role working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday alongside our tamariki that are over two years old in our Awarua and Rereoa Rooms:

  • Awarua Room: A space for toddlers to explore and develop independence in both indoor and outdoor learning environments.
  • Rereoa Room: A preschool space where tamariki learn problem-solving, communication, and self-confidence. Our Set for School program helps prepare them for primary school.
  • We also encourage tuakana-teina relationships, where older tamariki support younger ones.

Role Requirements

We are looking for a Teacher in Training with a positive and flexible attitude, dedicated to building strong relationships with children and whānau. You should have:

  • Enrollment in a Level 7 ECE Bachelor or Graduate Diploma
  • Strong communication skills
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi in teaching practice
  • Passion for delivering quality education
  • Reliability, teamwork, and a commitment to ongoing learning
