Area Manager, Corporate Banking

Mō te tūranga | About the Role
Reporting to the Regional Manager, you will be accountable for the performance of a regional team across Wellington and Palmerston North made up of Relationship Managers and Analysts covering a variety of industry verticals. As a senior leader in IBB the Area Manager is empowered to drive ‘one-team’ engagement in their local area, building close working relationships with CBW and other segments in IBB.
Key responsibilities include:
- Employee engagement, capability, and performance.
- Ensuring strong risk management practices are embedded across the team.
- Managing workflow and capacity.
- Supporting the delivery of the Corporate banking strategy and respective industry sub-strategies.
- Regularly coaching your direct reports.
- Customer experience (including NPS).
- Regular monitoring of customer activities to ensure your team deliver high quality interactions and ensuring that these are appropriately recorded in bank systems.
- Proactively engaging in the local community to build market presence and taking a strong local leadership role in this community.
- Supporting process improvement and digitisation initiatives.
- Creating a strong ‘one-team’ culture in your local area.

You are an exceptional people leader with demonstrated success in motivating people to do their best, with the ability to create a team culture with a growth mindset. You can mobilise a workforce to achieve best customer outcomes utilising remote working tools across a geographically spread team.
In addition, you will have:
- Comprehensive understanding of corporate customers and their needs.
- Expert knowledge of the financial services industry, including 10+ years banking experience, preferably within a corporate environment.
- Direct experience in a Relationship Management role would be an advantage.
- Demonstrated success leading high performing teams.
- Able to recognise areas of opportunity to adapt and innovate and drive productivity improvements.
- Understanding of performance and engagement drivers and motivating people to do their best.
- Highly developed business acumen which translates into the ability to represent Corporate in a professional manner.
- Strong coaching and mentoring skills.
- Ability to take ownership to act independently within agreed frameworks.
- Ability to build networks both internally and externally and communicate with confidence.
- Tertiary qualification preferred.
