We have an exciting opportunity for a Financial Operations (Fin Ops) Planner to join our BNZ Technology team.

The Fin Ops Planner is responsible for the implementation of financial operations and cost management frameworks focusing on third- party costs across the Technology business unit. This role supports the efficient use of technology resources, optimising spend, and implementing financial governance practices aligned with BNZ’s strategic objectives. By leveraging data-driven insights, the Fin Ops lead partners with engineering, product, and finance teams to promote financial accountability, improve cost efficiency, and maximise the value derived from technology investments.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role 

What are some day-to-day tasks the successful candidate in this role will complete?

  • Financial Management & Control: Lead financial planning and analysis for third-party costs, develop and maintain robust cost allocation models, implement financial controls and governance frameworks, drive accurate forecasting and budgeting processes, and monitor and report on technology spending patterns and trends.
  • Cost Optimisation & Efficiency: Drive systematic cost review and optimisation programmes, partner with Cloud Platforms and Software Asset Management teams to optimise cloud and software spend and consumption, work with service owners to identify and execute cost reduction initiatives and develop and implement cost benchmarks and efficiency metrics.
  • Business Partnership: Partner with Finance on budget management and reporting, support technology leaders with financial analysis and recommendations, provide regular financial updates to senior technology leadership, work with strategy teams to assess financial implications of strategic initiatives, and build strong relationships with Business Unit Finance partners.
  • Operational Excellence: Embed standardised financial processes and controls, implement financial reporting automation, support the development of clear KPIs for measuring financial performance, and ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures.

What technical skills are required for this role?

  • Financial Operations Expertise: Proven experience in financial operations (Fin Ops) with a strong focus on cloud cost management, financial analysis, and optimisation strategies.
  • Leadership & Stakeholder Management: Demonstrated experience leading initiatives across teams and collaborating effectively with technology, finance, and product stakeholders.
  • Data-Driven Decision-Making: Extensive expertise in using data and analytics to communicate financial insights, drive cost efficiencies, and influence decision-making across diverse stakeholders.
  • Clear Communication: Ability to translate complex financial/contractual treatments in a clear, concise manner to facilitate the right outcomes.
  • FinOps Framework Certification: Familiarity with the FinOps Foundation framework and best practices, demonstrating a commitment to ongoing professional development in this field
