Legal Counsel – Dispute Resolution and Financial Crime Legal

Mō te tūranga | About the Role

  • An opportunity has arisen for an experienced lawyer to join our award-winning legal team and be a primary contact for the Dispute Resolution and Financial Crime Legal team on a 12-month fixed term parental leave cover contract.
  • As a member of the Dispute Resolution and Financial Crime Legal team, you will help manage disputes, litigation, regulatory investigations and financial crime-related matters, including by:
  • Advising and assisting with dispute prevention, including through pre-litigation advice and training on litigation risks
  • Managing pending and threatened legal and regulatory investigations and providing advice and support on customer complaints and disputes
  • Processing and distributing Court documents served on WNZL to business units
  • Assisting with the provision of legal and strategic advice on matters relating to financial crime compliance, including on managing WNZL's relationships with financial crime compliance regulators
  • Engaging with the wider business and industry to lead engagement and thinking on regulatory issues and reform


Nā tāu rourou | What will you bring?

  • Bachelor of Laws (or appropriate overseas equivalent) and a NZ Practising Certificate
  • Several years post admission NZ experience
  • Dispute resolution experience – essential
  • Financial crime advisory experience – preferred
  • Experience working in a law firm and/or in-house financial services
  • Sound knowledge of New Zealand financial markets legislation and products
  • Knowledge of the New Zealand Bank regulatory environment, and regulators
  • Strong relationship and administrative skills
