Mō te tūnga | About the role

This role plays an important role in coordinating across Oranga Tamariki service groups and will see you working towards the goal of ensuring positive placement outcomes and resource allocation our services and partners.

This role oversees a team that works across services in order to best support the frontline with placement decisions and ensure the right placement options for tamariki and rangatahi. Ensuring cohesive coordination across these services as well as in supervised family homes residences is an important part of the role.

Interviews for this role will not begin until early 2025, with a start date thereafter


Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring

Key requirements of the role include: 

  • A tertiary qualification in or equivalent experience in a relevant field of social services or relationship management
  • A clean, current driver's licence is essential and a willingness to drive the Ministry's vehicles
  • Experience in leading high performing teams and managing service delivery operations within a social work services or comparable organisation
  • Prior experience in working with other government agencies, NGOs, Community, Iwi/Māori and Pacific peoples organisations
  • Strengths-based leadership, with the ability to collaborate effectively with others across the organisation to achieve mutually agreed goals
  • Lead the establishment and implementation of strategies and business plans within areas of responsibility
  • Engage in strategic in strategic conversations around the placement of high needs tamariki in our Care or Youth Justice Services
  • Participate in the development and design of new programmes, services and initiatives, providing specialist advice from an operational perspective
  • Lead the operational implementation of new placement initiatives to effectively transition new initiatives to the business
  • Responsible for the budget management in the Placement Hub
  • Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples' culture

Oranga Tamariki offer an impartial remuneration package, that offers progression annually for experience through tenure. Annual remuneration for this position starts between $125,926 and $139,459 dependant on experience.
