He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role:
As a Performance Insights and Modelling Specialist, you will play a key role in improving asset management at KiwiRail. You’ll use data analytics and modelling to provide critical insights into asset performance, supporting smarter decision-making across the business.


Working with teams across KiwiRail, you’ll identify performance trends, assess risks, and recommend improvements to optimise our network of assets. This role is about turning complex data into clear, actionable insights that drive long-term asset health and investment strategies.



Key responsibilities include:

  • Analysing network and asset performance to identify trends and opportunities for improvement
  • Leading the development of asset investment, asset health, and route criticality models
  • Forecasting and evaluating the impact of different investment scenarios on asset performance
  • Promoting innovative modelling solutions and best practice asset management
  • Monitoring and reporting on asset management performance across business units

We’re looking for someone who is analytical, detail-focused, and passionate about using data to drive continuous improvement:


Essential skills and qualifications:

  • 5–10 years of experience in data analytics, ideally within asset management
  • A tertiary qualification in Statistics, Commerce, Engineering, Technology, Asset Management, or a related field
  • Strong analytical skills and experience working with complex datasets
  • Proven experience in asset data analytics, modelling, and reporting
  • Proficiency in Python, Power BI, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio)


Desirable qualities:

  • Experience in project management
  • Familiarity with industry-leading financial and asset management systems
