We are seeking a senior infrastructure engineer to join our Continuous Computing Practice that provides specialist operational cloud platform, infrastructure, network and software services to our customers. Our team of engineers engage on the implementation, operations and management of on-premises and cloud platforms including hybrid and cloud-native platforms. This position will be based in Auckland. As an experienced systems engineer, you will have strong operational knowledge and experience in the infrastructure, systems engineering and operational domains and will work across the Theta practices to manage ICT and cloud environments on behalf of our customers using industry best practices.

As this role is in a team that is tasked with delivering operational excellence, the role includes being part of an after-hours roster for on-call support.

In this role we expect you to be part of activities to provide continuous environment optimisation, as well as be an active part of the new projects' lifecycle from the outset.

Skills and experience | Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako

  • 6+ years of commercial and hands-on engineering experience in enterprise ICT environments (on-premises and cloud-based).
  • Experience in managing and operating on-premises Microsoft Windows-based infrastructure environments, with ability to translate to modern platforms.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure cloud platforms, implementing and operating cloud-based services, including IaaS, PaaS and serverless offerings.
  • Experience operating hybrid infrastructure in hypervisor environments (VMware and Hyper-V).
  • Experience deploying, operating and maintaining Infrastructure-as-Code environments (Terraform skills preferred).
  • Strong scripting/automation technology experience including tools such as PowerShell, bash, Bicep, MS Graph API, Ansible, VBScript, Python, Terraform.
  • Operational experience working within DevOps frameworks and practices.
  • Experience working in a vendor and external customer facing environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, a knack for problem solving and a passion for ensuring clients receive exceptional quality of service is a must.
  • Strong understanding of operational best practice and strong focus on operational excellence.
  • Good grasp and working knowledge of Solution Architecture frameworks and considerations.
  • Good grasp and working knowledge of Security frameworks, practices, processes and procedures in production operational environments.


Nice to have:

  • Experience managing and operating heterogeneous Linux environments.
  • Experience with AWS cloud platforms.
  • Microsoft certifications desirable.
  • Hands on experience of containers and container orchestration in production environments an advantage.
  • Experience with a wide variety of open-source technologies and cloud services.
